Beginnings [1]

Duncansville was founded by Samuel Duncan; at the same time Jacob Walter owned a site to the east called Waltertown; the two met on a bridge spanning Blair Creek and tossed a penny to decide what a common name should be, In the settlement's anonymous days, around 1800, the operations of Old Forge brought it the nickname of Iron Town. Many of its residents, chiefly of Scotch-Irish and German descent, are employed in Altoona's railroad shops.

Farms and woodlands appear alternately in the mountainous region west of Duncansville.
