Beginnings [1]

New Germantown in Toboyne Township is located twenty-eight miles west of Newport, almost at the extreme west end of Sherman's Valley. It was laid out in 1816 by Solomon Shelby. It was incorporated as a borough in 1842 by an act of the legislature, but forfeited its charter for failure to fulfill all the provisions of the act.
