Lovingston is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Nelson County. It is part of the Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Lovingston, seat of Nelson County, is a one-street community in the center of a large apple-raising area. The brick courthouse with arcaded front entrance, cupola, and gabled roof, was erected in 1809.
