The City of College Station began with the founding of Texas A&M College in 1876. A post office named College Station was established in 1877, named for the train station located near the campus. The City was incorporated in 1938. When the population exceeded 5,000 in 1952, College Station was approved for governance under a home rule charter. [www.cstx.gov, accessed December, 2015.
