TOWNS
Anderson County was formed in 1801 from parts of Grainger and Knox counties. It was named for Joseph Anderson who served as a U.S. Senator. The first county seat was Burrville named for Aaron Burr. After Burr killed Alexander Hamilton, the name was changed to Clinton in honor of Vice-President George Clinton.
