Moosic Borough was incorporated in 1890 from Lackawanna Township (now extinct) and named from the Algonquin word meaning "great herds of moose." Several coal and freight rail lines traversed the borough as well as the "Laurel Line," the passenger trolley route between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. [1]
