The centerpiece of 1,500 acre Peace Valley County Park is the 350 acre Lake Galena. From about the 1840s to the 1860s what is now the park was a center of lead mines. The lake was formed in 1975 when the mines were plugged with concrete and the area flooded.

Nature Center There are 14 miles of nature trails in the woods and meadows at the eastern end of Lake Galena. Different types of paths provide appropriate challenges for walkers, bikers, and hikers. The foot paths are generally mowed or graveled and provided with bridges or stone steps at creek crossings. The Hike & Bike Path is a blacktop trail continuing around the lake on Creek Road and New Galena Road. These trails lead through areas rich in plant and wildlife. The Center provides guided nature walks, as well as materials for use on self-guided outings.

Other facilities include fishing, boat rental, playgrounds, seasonal rest rooms, picnicking, designated ice-skating area.
