Beginnings

The Town of Aberdeen has a rich history as a railroad town and a crossroads for business. Established in 1877 as Blue's Crossing the town was renamed in 1887. The first settlers into this area were Scottish Highlanders in the early to mid 1800s. In the late 1800s, a rail line leading to Raleigh and Augusta was built, making Aberdeen a central hub for industry and manufacturing. Today, Aberdeen sits at the intersection of the major highways US 1, US 15-501, NC Highway 211, and NC Highway 5.
