In 1885 Van Deusenville was a small postal village located midway between Great Barrington and Housatonic, on the Williams River, and on the Housatonic Railroad. The village had the only works of the Richmond Iron Company, a church, a school house, about 20 dwellings, etc., though it was formerly of considerable importance, having 3 stores, a hotel, 2 factories, a chair shop, a wagon shop and a blast furnace. Isaac L. Van Deusen, to whose energy and enterprise the village was largely indebted, and whose resources were impaired in building it up, removed to Grafton, Ohio, in 1834, and died there. [1]
