Madisonburg [1] was laid out by Jacob Reber, in 1816, and first called "Jacobsburg." When the post office was established, in 1830, the name was changed to honor President James Madison. Population in 1940 was 1,030.

WOLF'S STORE. A post village of 150 inhabitants. located in Miles township, Centre county, 28 miles east of Bellefonte, the county seat. Coburn, distant 11 miles, on L. & T. Br. Penn. R. B., is the shipping point. Daily stage communifation with Rebersburg. J. R. Wolfe, postmaster.
