Dresden as described in 1939 [1]

Dresden, seat of Weakley County, was settled by German immigrants. It is locally referred to as the "town of intensive rest" because an old settler once said that Dresden natives were born tired and needed a whole lifetime to get rested. But the town, built on thickly forested hills, is a busy trading center for lumber, staves, tobacco and country produce.

The industrial plants are a tannery, and factories that make wooden implement handles, candy and burial garments.

A Confederate monument, erected to Weakley County soldiers, stands at the northwest corner of the public square.
