Neighborhoods

Barrett Township in northeastern Monroe County is an area recognized for its beautiful natural features. Barrett Township is close enough to the more populous areas of Monroe County to be conveniently accessible, yet its position provides for a more small town sense of community. The Township is made up of five villages: Cresco, Mountainhome, Canadensis, Buck Hill Falls and Skytop. Most of the township's residents are concentrated within these villages. Surrounding these villages is a pristine natural environment. As part of the Pocono Mountains region, the Township was once a thriving resort destination. With attractions such as the Skytop Lodge and the Buck Hill Inn offering visitors an all-inclusive vacation experience, the towns around these resorts began to grow. Along with the development of these resort towns, rail service provided the impetus for growth in industry. Lumber, farming and ice harvesting were at one time major industries in the region. The rail lines provided access to commercial centers such as New York and Philadelphia. [1]
