Historic Sketch [1]

Along the Eastern Brandywine, almost four miles east of Honeybrook, is a small settlement by the name of Cupola. Evidently postal accommodations were sadly missed by the people who lived around a stove foundry and other mills at that point. They appealed to the postal authorities and in 1869 a post office was opened. It was named Cupola from the fact that the towering cupola of Rebecca Furnace, erected about 1763, was a famous landmark. The old East Brandywine and Waynesburg railroad used the name for its station there, too.

Cupola is listed as being "eligible" for nomination as a National Register Historic District.
