Mamakating Town Hall is located at 2948 Route 209, Wurtsboro NY 12790.
Mamakating is said to have been named in honor of an Indian chief. Early records show the name written as Mame-Kating and Mame-Cotink. The town was incorporated in 1788, the first in Sullivan County. The first white settler was Manual Gonsalus; his tombstone is dated 1752.
