Historic postal village on "Snook Kil" named for Colonel Peter Gansevoort who settled here soon after the Revolutionary War. In 1871 it was a station on the Rensselaer & Saratoga Railroad and contained 2 churches, a hotel, 2 stores, a woolen factory, a grist mill, several mechanics shops, and about 200 residents.
