The town of Mocksville was incorporated in 1839. Daniel Boone's family moved from Pennsylvania to Davie County (along Elisha Creek, near Mocksville) about 1752, when Daniel was 18 years old.

Mocksville is home to a number of properties which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include: the Davie County Courthouse, the former Davie County Jail, the Downtown Mocksville Historic District, the North Main Street Historic District, and the Salisbury Street Historic District.
