Montgomery County administrative offices are located at 105 East Coolbaugh Street, Red Oak, IA 51566; phone: 712-623-4363.

Montgomery County was created in 1851 from part of Pottawattamie County. It is named for Revolutionary War hero, General Richard Montgomery. From 1851 to 1853 Montgomery was attached to Adams County for judicial purposes. The first Montgomery elections were held in 1853 with Amos G. Lowe elected as the first county judge.
