Shartlesville

In the early 1900s Shartlesville, the sole village in Upper Bern Township, had several hotels, a few stores, miscellaneous businesses and large, red brick church.

Today, Shartelsville is perhaps best known as the home of Roadside America. Promotional material bills it as "The World's Greatest Indooor Miniature Village." This family-run attraction which opened in the 1950s, began as a hobby at the hands of brothers Laurence and Paul Gieringer in the 1930s.
