Morris Heights as described in the late 19th Century [1]

Morris Heights is within fifteen minutes ride of 42nd Street and thirty minutes of City Hall. It combines most of the conveniences of the city with the enjoyment of pure country air and surroundings. The environment is one of rarely-seen beauty. Situated at a considerable altitude above the sea level, the air is bracing, the water is exceptionally pure, while the landscape is charming. The history of the surrounding country antedates the Revolution, and is intensely interesting. Altogether, Morris Heights is an ideal location for a suburban home. The new buildings of the University of the City of New York are situated just north of the village.
