Upper Township

Upper Township was incorporated in 1798. It is bounded by the Great Egg Harbor and the Tuckahoe River, separating it from Atlantic County. In 1846 within the township there were 4 stores, 1 grist mill, 4 saw mills, 5 schools with 219 students, 1 Baptist Church, 1 Methodist Church, and a Friends meeting house. [1]
