Sixteen Acres  is located in the southeastern part of the city, beginning about three miles from the Central Business District. It is Springfield's largest neighborhood, containing 4,508 acres. Principal boundaries are Watershops Pond and the North Branch of the Mill River to the north; the town of East Longmeadow to the south; Schneelock Brook to the west; and the town of Wilbraham to the east.
There are seven public schools in Sixteen Acres, as well as one charter school. The five elementary schools are: Walsh, Lynch, Freedman, Brunton, and Talmadge. The two middle schools are: Kiley and Duggan Sabis International Charter School is the first of Springfield's charter schools as provided under the state Education Reform Act. Sixteen Acres is also home to Western New England State University.
