Originally known as Pleasant Valley, Avoca was incorporated as a borough in 1871, from Pittston Township. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International airport is partly located within the borough limits, and is named, Avoca Worldwid. Population in 2008 was approximately 2,700. According to the Luzerne County website, the median housing price for the borough is approximately $81,000.
