Beginnings [1]

Situated in the south central part of Chester County, in an area whcih produces mushrooms, fruits, and flowers, the township of London Grove owes its name, as do several other places in the same region, to the London Company. It was formed in 1723.

The crossroads village of London Grove, which consists of more than 30 houses north of Avondale, took its name from the township when the 13th post office in Chester County was established there on the first day of 1810. It is located in West Marlborough Township, however. Most of the first settlers — the Puseys, Pennocks, and Pyles — were members of the Society of Friends and founded a Meeting here in 1714.
