TOWNS

Oklahoma County was created in 1890, following the opening of the Unassigned Lands to white settlement and the passage of the Organic Act, whichestablishedOklahomaTerritory. The county commissioners rented office and courtroom space until 1901, when they erected the first courthouse building, an imposing Victorian Romanesque edifice. he county was one of the original seven created when the "Oklahoma Territory."
