North Castle Town Hall is located at 15 Bedford Road, Armonk NY 10504; phone: 914-273-3321. North Castle's first inhabitants, the Siwanoy Indians, began seeing white settlers occupy the area during the early 1700s, arriving from Masachusetts and Connecticut as well as other areas of New York, especially Rye and Long Island. A northerly Indian encampment was said to have resembled a "castle" in the eyes of early settlers, thus the name North Castle which was given to the town on its incorporation in 1788. Area residents began meeting and planning their town petition as early as 1786. New Castle town was taken off in 1791, effectively reducing the town by half. |
