Stillwater was formed in 1788. A part of Easton (Washington County) was taken off in 1789, and Malta in 1802. Historic villages located within the town include Stillwater, Mechanicsville, Bemis Heights and Ketchums Corner. Settlement commenced around 1750. The first church was established in 1763.
