Hamburgh Town was separated into East Hamburgh and Ellicott in 1850. Sometime around World War I, the "h" in Hamburgh became lost, thus the modern spelling. Hamburg became known as Orchard Park Township in 1934.

Quaker John Allen and his spouse, Chloe, were early settlers in the area ... around 1854.
