Arkwright was formed from Pomfret and Villenova, April 30, 1829. Arkwright Summit is the tallest in the county, approximately 1,100 ft. above Lake Erie. The first settlement was made by Byron T. Orton, Benjamin Perry, and Augustus Burnham in 1807. The first church (Baptist) was organized by Elder Thomas Grennel in 1820.
